Stubborness, baby shower and a late-night run

I am a little bit stubborn.  Any one that has known me for a while or a week and a half can attest to that.  My Tía Jero used to call me “cabezuda” or “cabeza dura” in Spanish, which literally translates to hard headed.  I’m not proud of it but I own it and recognize that, at times, I can be a know-it-all, don’t easily back down and very much have to have the last word.

Do you like me enough to keep reading anyway even though I just admitted that?

Reason #91,347 testament to my stubborn-ness: tonight’s late-night run.  I went for a run tonight after we got back from our friend’s baby shower, completely against my husband’s (and daughter’s) wishes.  We got back from the baby shower way later than anticipated and I came in, got dressed, and proceeded to announce that I was going running whether they liked it or not.  Being that I slept late this morning instead of going to the gym, I knew I had to go running.  I had to stand my ground through their (many) objections and eventually we came to an agreement.  The compromise was that I would go well prepared: reflective arm bands, ankle band, reflective, light-colored clothes, pepper spray and Bella, our Chihuahua/Pug mix that thinks she is a Pit Bull.  Long story short, I got in a quick two-mile run (and avoided breaking my RUNstreak) and Bella got to do her business.  Killed two birds with one stone!

Ready for my late-night run!!

RUNstreak: as of tonight, 36 days and counting…

Speaking of the baby-shower, it was lovely!  One of my hubby’s BFF’s buddies (guys don’t call each other “BFF’s” or “besties,” right?), Marco and his wife, Leticia, are welcoming their baby boy into the world in August and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Marco, Lety, my little one and myself

The shower was fun and we got to catch up with lots of friends.  I actually met Marco the same night I met my hubs ten years ago so I consider Marco to be just as much my friend as my hubby’s.  And although Marco and Lety have only been married a year, they’ve been together for years before that so we have all go way back.  The food was a good old fashioned “Taquiza” or Mexican bar-b-que, complete with Tacos de Pastor (spicy pork) and Bistec (beef fajita), Fijoles a la Charra (Charro-style Pinto beans), Aguas Frescas de Limonada (fresh limeade) and Sandia (watermelon), and an assortment of desserts.  The food was spectacular and Lety got lots of cute and useful gifts so Baby is all set!  We got him the most precious red, black and white one-sies with motorcycles everywhere and some sock shoes that are tiny, checkered baby Vans to match.  Of course our nephew is going to have Rock Star style if we’ve got anything to do with it! The hubs and I.

Nights like these are extra-special to me.  Friends are important to us and these are two people that we consider to be way more than friends; they are family!  Getting to spend time with the ones you love, eating some good food and catching up…and ending the night with a nice run…well, it just doesn’t get much better than that.

Me, Lety, and our friend Veronica.

And so we anxiously await the arrival of this precious Baby, the newest member of our family.
